One Hundredth Birthday, Mr Hugh Kerr, Patna – 8th May 2026
Born near Culzean in 1926, Hugh enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1944 and served on board HMS Belfast. After the war, Hugh completed an engineering course and worked for Scottish Power for 30 years until his retirement.
Hugh married his wife, Ann in Hurlford in 1950 and they had one son. Both have sadly passed away but he is still very close to his old neighbours Martha and David.
His day was marked with great celebration at Doonbank House Care Home in Patna where all his fellow residents had a great day and he was very proud to have received his card from Their Majesties and said "this means so much to me".
He had visits from East Ayrshire Provost Claire Leitch and local councillor Drew Filson along with the Executive Warrant Officer Daniel Lound from HMS Glasgow, Lt. Commander Barry Smith from HMS Gannet, Royal British Legion Kilmarnock Branch, the Veterans Breakfast Club, SSAFA, Ayr Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets and many friends from over the years.
Following the presentation Deputy Lieutenant Ritchie Conaghan said” It was my great pleasure to present Mr Kerr with his card from Their Majesties. Can I also thank the staff of Doonbank House and everyone who attended for making his birthday special.”
