SSAFA appoints Lord-Lieutenant as Honorary President – 23rd August 2019

SSAFA, the Armed Force Charity, provides lifelong support for those who are currently serving, or have served as a regular or reserve, in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army or the Royal Air Force – and their families. The original foundations of SSAFA, established in 1885, were organised on a 'county' basis. For this reason, and by historical tradition, branches throughout UK enjoy the support of the relevant Lord Lieutenant in the Honorary President role. In keeping with this tradition the Lord-Lieutenant was appointed Honorary President of the Ayrshire Branch of SSAFA on Friday 23rd August 2019
On acceptance of her new role the Lord-Lieutenant Sheriff Iona McDonald said “I am delighted and honoured to accept this position and look forward to participating annual award presentations and, if available, in major awareness events.”
In 2018 SSAFA completed 344 cases and distributed £234,000 in Ayrshire alone. Further details on the invaluable work undertaken by SSAFA can be found by clicking on the following link.
