Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 - October 2020

 Postponed from June this year, The Queen’s Birthday Honours list was published on Friday 9th October 2020. As well as prominent members of society from across the UK it included a number of our own local unsung heroes who have been recognised for the part that they have played in the fight against the global Covid 19 pandemic. . Amongst those honoured from Ayrshire and Arran this year were;


Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)


Mrs Fiona MCAVOY, Ayr - Head teacher, Newton Primary School. For services to Education in South Ayrshire
Mrs Theresa MCELHONE, Irvine, - UNICEF Infant Feeding Adviser. For services to Healthcare and Families 
Mr James WILSON, Troon, - For services to Veterinary Practice and Animal Welfare on the Isle of Mull

Mr William Phillips Cochran BROWN, Largs, - For services to the community in Largs during Covid-19 
Mr Hugh HILL, Coylton, - For services to the Homeless in Scotland during Covid-19 
Ms Elizabeth Margaret MCLEAN, Lamlash, Isle of Arran, Frontline Food Retail Worker, The Cooperative Group. -  For services to the Covid-19 response 
Mrs Elizabeth Ann SHANNON, Dalmellington, Senior Clerical Assistant, Ochiltree Primary School. -  For services to Education and Sport in East Ayrshire
