SSAFA Fun Day, Kilmarnock - July 2016

The Lord Lieutenant and Mrs Duncan recently attended a major fundraising event in Kilmarnock in aid of SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity which works closely with veterans to identify the support that they require. The Lord Lieutenant is also President of the Ayrshire Branch of SSAFA and is actively involved in the work of the Branch.

The event started with a motorcycle ride out through Kilmarnock with over 150 riders, many of whom were veterans and which was led by the Provost of East Ayrshire. The motorcycle theme continued throughout the event itself with displays from the Royal Signals Display Team, The White Helmets.

The day was supported by many local organisations who work closely with SSAFA including Police Scotland, Fire Service, Coastguard, Scottish Ambulance Service, East Ayrshire Council, and other military charities.

The Lord Lieutenant said " SSAFA are extremely grateful for the support that we have received not only from the organisations that participated in the event but also from the ongoing support that we receive from the community and our volunteers without whom we could not undertake the critical role that we have in supporting the needs of Veterans across the County".
