Presentation of Queen’s Scout Award, Kilwinning, - Sunday 27th January 2019

On Sunday 27th January 2019 in Kilwinning Old Parish Church the Lord-Lieutenant presented the Queen’s Scout Award to Abbey Roy and Scott Jaffrey of the !9th Ayrshire Scout Group.
The Queen's Scout Award is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members and comprises of a variety of activities. It is linked closely to the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
Abbey and Scott joined the Beavers at the age of 6 and have progressed through Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and, Explorers. Both have now taken out Leader Warrants within the group.
They have been very keen and active members of the group, attending numerous annual camps in Cornwall, Isle of Man, Dublin, Bristol and an international camp in Kandersteg, Switzerland in 2016.
In addition they were chosen to be part of the contingent which represented Scotland at the 2015 World Jamboree in Japan.
They both have amassed over 200 nights under canvas while taking part in scout activities and both  gained their Gold Duke of Edinburgh  Award last year.
Scott is a keen swimmer and fisherman and these activities featured in the skills section of his Duke of Edinburgh award.
Abbey, as a Young Leader helped in the Cub Scout section and is an accomplished piper, playing with Irvine Pipe band, and these activities helped her to progress through the stages of her Duke of Edinburgh award.
